چکیده

Based on our experience with a collection of prototypical ubiquitous computing applications, we have identified a number of common basic tasks which led to the design of some simple mechanisms that we have found useful for structuring and implementing such applications. Building upon these mechanisms, we have created a software infrastructure to support the development of tag-based ubiquitous computing applications. Our framework is targeted at applications where objects are tagged with Radio Frequency Identification tags (RFIDs), a simple but powerful means of bridging the gap between the physical and the virtual world. A central feature of our infrastructure are virtual counterparts. They form augmented representations of real world objects and encapsulate their state and behavior. This paper presents the rationale, design, and implementation of our prototype infrastructure.

Bridging Real and Virtual Reality in a Complex Learning Environment

The aim of this project is to demonstrate the feasibility and the advantages of a new kind of learning environment for vocational training in production engineering. Based on the combination of real world phenomena and virtual world simulations through a Graspable User Interface it will be possible to freely change between operations on real physical objects and their virtual counterparts. Thes...

usage scenario: A group works together in a virtual world Members of a real world group meet online to discuss a shared concern. In the space they browse andinteract with virtual objects that are surrogates for objects in the real world; as part of their discussion theypoint at and annotate the virtual objects. The surrogates evoke their experiences with the real worldcounterparts, ...

Designing a Mixed Reality Framework for Enriching Interactions in Robot Simulation

Experimentation of expensive robot systems typically requires complex simulation models and expensive hardware setups for constructing close-to-real world environments in order to obtain reliable results and draw insights to the actual operation. However, the test-development cycle is often time-consuming and resource demanding. A cost-effective solution is to conduct experiments by replacing e...

Nexus { an Open Global Infrastructure for Spatial-aware Applications

Due to the lack of a generic platform for location-and spatial-aware systems, many basic services have to be reimplemented in each application that uses spatial-awareness. A cooperation among diierent applications is also diicult to achieve without a common platform. In this paper we present a platform that solves these problems. It provides an infrastructure that is based on computer models of...

A User Guidance Approach for Passive Haptic Environments

Traveling through virtual environments (VEs) by means of real walking is a challenging task since usually the size of the virtual world exceeds the size of the tracked interaction space. Redirected walking is one concept to solve this problem by guiding the user on a physical path which differs from the path the user visually perceives, for example, in head-mounted display (HMD) environments.Th...
